I know that using a copywritten song in a video without the owner’s permission is illegal. What if you’re using it as background music for a dance video?

Ok, I scratched what I had written, I guess I might as well explain the Fair Use doctrine in details.

When a court decides whether a specific usage is within the realm of Fair Use (meaning you don’t need to pay, or have permission) they look at a four prong test:

1) The character of the use (commercial, private, education, parody, etc.)

2) Nature of the work used (published, fact, imaginative, unpublished, etc.)

3) Amount of the work to be used (part, whole, etc)

4) Effect of use on the market of the original work (do they suffer lost sales for example).

In your case, the question will depend majorly on the first factor. Are you looking to make a dance video and sell it? If so, no go. Are you looking to make one just for your self, or to publish on Youtube etc? If so, you’re good (so far).

The nature of the work you are going to use, is published music. This isn’t really important in your situation, since music is sort of an established category.

Third is amount of the music you intend to use. I imagine you want to use a full song, which theoretically counts against you, but again, not really going to be important here.

Fourth factor is whether you using their music will hurt the artist in any way. This becomes tied into number one again. If you are looking to make a commercial video, it is quite possible they will suffer losses from your unauthorized use. If you are just making a video for fun and to show friends, they’re not losing anything.

I was just wondering if you have a dance workout video if it really helps you lose weight and how long does it take to show youre losing weight. how long should you do the workouts for?? like 20 minutes everyday or like 40 minutes three times a week. and what dance workout video is the best?? i know these are a lot of questions but can you please answer all of them?

be sure to burn out those extra calories by the end of the week. If you feel that you have consumed more calories than you should have during the week, it happens you know, and then make sure that you work off those extra calories by the end of the week.
